I have no problem with testing done on animals for medical purposes, i.e. vaccines, cancer treatments, etc. Now, truth be told, I'm not exactly sure why it has to be done on cute vertebrates, to me it would make more sense to do such testing on bugs and spiders.
However, I do have a problem with testing done for non-medical purposes. I won't name any names, but let's pretend there was a company that was known for manufacturing soap products, and let's further pretend that they operated a facility located near the Miami River in Ross, Ohio, and, again I'm changing the names to protect the innocent, but let's just say there was this thing known as the Draize eye test that involved blinding rabbits all for purposes of evaluating whether certain household products irritate the human eye....well, in my opinion, that's serious bull#$%&.
And don't bother emailing me, because I'm not going to identify who this company is, where their facility is located or what they allegedly do there.
And no, Gae, I'm not a member of PETA. But I am a human being and, as I discussed last week, I actually favor animals over humans. Call me a traitor to my own species if you will, but the LewMan always roots for the animals.

Lewbaby, you've done it again. You're OFF TOPIC!! This thread is about animal testing, not testing products on animals. I'm still searching for the stats that will prove that the critters in the picture above have better SAT scores than most CPS students.
However (and it pains me to say this publically), I do agree with you about the practices of that unidentified locally based soap company.

I think the real question here is, were these animals properly educated before they were subjected to taking this test?
Did anyone make sure that these rabbits received the right information about what to study?
If not, they may just look like a bunch of dumb bunnies!
Schools aren't just for fish people!

Several years back, Dateline asked several Wall Street brokers to pick stocks, and they had a monkey do the same, and they tracked the stocks progress and....suprise.....if you went with the monkey, you'd have made more money than if you went with the brokers.
That told me all I need to know about the intelligence of primates (and lack thereof in homo sapiens)
